Recently, Vinia & I attended a local MeetUp Group event with SEO experts, Raymond Fong & Fernando “Ferny” Ceballos of SEO Networkers.  At the event we learned the importance and benefits of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), which we are going to share with you today.

We realized that investing time to learn and implement SEO strategies is a critical piece of growing our home based internet business.

Here is the basic information about SEO…

So what is SEO?

Simply put, SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.  It’s an online traffic strategy that’s used to get higher rankings from all the major search engine providers such as Google, Yahoo!, Bing, etc.  The purpose of SEO is to get on the first page of the search engines in order to get natural (unpaid) traffic to you website or blog.

What are some of the benefits of SEO?

One major benefit of using SEO strategies is getting free targeted traffic to your website resulting in obtaining customers & prospects interested in your business or the information you are offering.  Also, there is less competition because there is probably only a small percentage of Internet Marketers who understand & implement SEO strategies.  Imagine, there are Millions of dollars of potential traffic available through using this strategy.

Know more than the majority.

Quite honestly, there are some common objections to using SEO strategies.  The two major arguments is that SEO takes a longer time to see results and there are too many technical terms to understand.  Just like most other Internet strategies, like PPC or Social Media, etc… it just takes learning and implementing.  You start off with just the basic knowledge and build on it, piece by piece.  Before you know it, you will know more than the majority of newbie Internet Marketers and will reap the rewards of SEO traffic.  Realistically, if you can create a website or blog, you can implement SEO.

SEO Simplified

In general, there are 3 things you must do to get results from SEO.

1)      The first step is to focus on Keywords.  Basically, keywords are the topics your customers/audience type into the search engines, ex. dog training.

2)      Another, part of SEO is using your keywords in the content and headlines that you create, like on your websites, your blogs, articles, etc.

3)      The last important part of search engine optimization has to do with Links.  Links are like votes (or connections) and the goal is to get more links from other websites.  The more links you acquire, the better chance of your page receiving a higher ranking on the search engines.

So that’s our basic overview of Search Engine Optimization (SEO).  Like we mentioned before, it may take some time to learn the specifics but for a complete understanding, we turn to Raymond Fong and Ferny Ceballos of http://www.seonetworker.com/. They have a simple, yet thorough way of explaining the details of SEO.
